J. Ruth Gracias is a Contemporary Artist based in Auckland, New Zealand. Deeming herself a storyteller above all else, her creations are aimed at being an immersive experience; an evolution of poetic moods through paintings.
"Art is a form of communication that to me is telepathic in nature. My practice has taken me from impressionism in childhood, to realism in middle school through college, to finally abstraction in my adult life.
My work is evolving, and it is an exciting time, with the use of more experimental materials and processes that accentuate texture and volume.
Open for commissions.
The timeframe for creating standard work is approximately 4 - 8 weeks, however it depends on the project. All artwork is signed dated and professionally packaged. (A letter of authentication is available upon request)
To commission an artwork is to order a original artwork tailored to your requests. It also means that you can have a greater input into an artwork, choosing what resonates with you, resulting in a painting that balances your needs with my unique vision.
LIMITED EDITION PRINTS
The limited edition prints refer to the total number of prints that will ever be done of that one image. For example an edition of 50 prints may come in two different sizes but there will only ever be 50 of that particular image ever printed.

“Bloom” is inspired by “a sea of lotus flowers”. This flower blooms in the most unlikely of places – surrounded by gluggy mud in murky river waters. Not only does it find sanctuary in the muck, but due to the waxy protection layer on its petals, its beauty is blithely unaffected when it re-blooms each morning. It continues to resurrect itself, coming back just as beautiful as it was last seen. With such refusal to accept defeat, it's almost impossible not to associate this flower with unwavering faith. Although cultures have largely dubbed the lotus as a spiritual figurehead, it is most emblematic of the faith within ourselves.
To be an Artist is to believe in life.
Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.
Art is not what you see, but how you make others feel.
